Synopsis-
Kalpana (Jayalalithaa) is a modern girl returning to India from London. She along with her parents go to a nearby village to attend a family function, where they meet Mookkaiya, the village chief. Kalpana immediately falls for him, but her mother is against this, as opposed to Kalpana's father. Kalpana is later due to get married to another man, but Mookkaiya rescues her from the marriage and subsequently they two get married. Kalpana's father blesses them, but her mother does not and estranges herself from Kalpana. Though Kalpana and Mookkaiya lead a happily married life, they are poles apart from each other; Kalpana is modern, while Mookkaiya is rustic. This eventually causes a rift, after Kalpana invites her friends to a party at the village house, and Mookkaiya sends them all out in rage. Startled, Kalpana separates herself from Mookkaiya and returns to her parents home. However, Mookkaiyan tries to learn western practices to impress Kalpana and get her back to the village, even he goes to the extent of impregnating her. But she only starts disliking him and with help from her mother, sends him away. A year later, her son his born but is taken away from her and to Mookkaiya's house. Whether she gets back her son and reconciles with Mookkaiya forms the rest of the story.
