Varalaru: History Of Godfather (English: Biography: History Of Godfather) is a 2006 Indian Tamil action family drama written and directed by K. S. Ravikumar. The film stars Ajith Kumar in a triple role as a father and his two sons, alongside Asin and Kanika. Ramesh Khanna, Suman Setty, Sujatha and M. S. Baskar play other supporting roles. The film's soundtrack and score were composed by A. R. Rahman. This movie has been remade in Kannada, titled Godfather starring Upendra, Soundarya Jayamala & Catherine Tresa. Prior to release, the film was known by its original title Godfather, but following the Government of Tamil Nadu's motion to exempt tax on films titled in Tamil in 2006, the film's title was changed. After two years of production, the film released on 20 October 2006 and emerged as the biggest grosser of the year,collecting ₹65 crore at the box office, which is now worth over ₹153 crore.

Vijay Chopra (Anil Kapoor) returns from USA, to join his family business. Vishwanath hopes to bring some stability into his son's life through marriage and Vijay is all the more reluctant to tie the knot. A compromise is finally struck between the father and the son with Vijay agreeing to marry, with a condition. The condition that if he is not compatible with his wife after a year of marriage, he will leave her. Although furious with the condition, Vishwanath realises that a marriage with a condition never the less better than no marriage at all. Vishwanath feels that there is no one better suited than Megha (Kajol), his trusted and efficient secretary, who is capable of changing his son's heart within a year of the marriage. Vijay thinks otherwise and on their first anniversary, he enforces the contract. Megha leaves his house and start working, but the society brands her character less. When Vijay realise what is happening to Megha's life he wishes to take back but she refuses. In the midst of all, Megha realises that she is pregnant.
