Indu and Chandru (Ramba and Karthik) fall in love. Indu does the disappearing act and Chandru gets engaged to Rekha (Mumtaz). Indu re-appears after three years with a little girl, who she claims is Chandru's daughter. Chandru vehemently denies it and finding Indu's presence an embarrassment tries to ferret out the truth. After many scenes of forced comedy, we learn that the girl is the illegitimate daughter of Chandru's much-married brother, who had seduced Indu's sister. After his brother's futile attempt to play the villain, Chandru latches on to Indu fast enough with no apology to Rekha. But it is not really Chandru's fault. For Rekha had done the disappearing act from the scene early enough without any explanation either.

Budget Padmanabhan is a 2000 Tamil comedy film. The film received mixed to positive reviews.

The movie starts with Gautham (Jiiva) as a kid, being told that women are all bad and are very selfish by his father (Nasser) because his wife had eloped on that day. They then move to Chennai, where Gautham meets Baby (Santhanam) and Sri (Vinay Rai). The trio become inseparable friends. Vetrivel (Satyaraj) is a businessman who lives with his wife (Kushboo Sundar), his son Sakthivel (Sibiraj), his daughter Selvi (Bharathi) and his wife's brother Thandapani (Vadivelu). Sakthi wanted to become as an IPS officer but his father denied it and made him work in his shop. Selvi gets married and lives happily, while Sakthi falls in love with Manju (Nikita Thukral). It turns out that Manju is the daughter of Vetrivel's sister who eloped with someone. Since, Vetrivel has lost touch with his sister. Manju came into their lives to reunite the siblings.

Meanwhile, Sakthi's sister finds out that her father-in-law (Thambi Ramaiah), his wife and her husband are culprits and smugglers. Before she can tell someone about it she is killed and her child is kept. Sakthi goes to visit his sister and finds her dead. Sakthi takes vengeance on his sister's murderers and goes to jail, while Manju's mother reunites with her brother Vetrivel. After having served his sentence in jail, Sakthi marries Manju and lives happily ever after.
