The Story is about Shankar and Thakur Bhawani. In a remote region in India there has been a tradition of settling differences by fighting a duel with pistols with only one bullet in each of them. Such was the duel fought by Shankar and Thakur Bhavani Singh, with the latter emerging as the victor. Years later, Bhavani's son, Prithvi, returns from London, meets Shankar's son, Gora and daughter, Tara, befriends them, and eventually both Tara and Prithvi fall in love with each other. When Bhavani finds this out, he wants Prithvi to marry Rajeshwari, who comes from a rich family, and will destroy Gora Shankar and his tribe of gypsies. Unable to make up his mind, Prithvi ends up marrying both women, leading to Tara giving birth to a son, Pratap. Bhavani is enraged when he this out, he has Tara and a lot of their people slain, and their homes torched. Gora himself is arrested by the police, and sentenced to several years in prison. When he is discharged, he asks Bhavani for a duel, but Prithvi intervenes and is killed. Gora takes Pratap to live with him, while Rajeshwari gives birth to a boy, Ranvir, who is raised and brought up by Bhavani. Years later, Pratap and Ranvir meet as strangers, become friends, only to find out that there is an old score to be settled - which can only be done when they follow the time-old tradition of the duel - resulting in only one man surviving.

The movie story deals with Shashi Sharma, Akbar and a group of young people pledge never to give nor receive dowry in protest against dowry system. Shashi had an elder sister who lost her life being a victim of dowry system. Acting against his mother's wishes, Shashi marries Sugandha Srivastav without asking for any dowry. He arranges his other sister, Rama's marriage with Ravi Verma, the son of Goverdhan and Shakuntala. Goverdhan is an MLA and is a very greedy man. As he does not get any dowry, he and his wife become quite upset, though Ravi is happy. Both want Ravi to re-marry, so that they can get dowry. Meanwhile, Rama becomes pregnant and so the in-laws try to eliminate her at the earliest. Goverdhan gets Ravi transferred to Delhi. After sending him away, Goverdhan plans to kill Rama in a fashion similar to an accident. But things did not turn up as he expected and his wife gets badly burned, who has to be hospitalized. Taking this opportunity, Goverdhan blames Rama for attempting to kill Shakuntala, and has her arrested. He also hires goons to kill Shashi. Shashi along with Ravi overcomes all obstacles after a fight with the goons and reaches the hospital with Ravi being seriously injured. Goverdhan becomes remorseful after seeing his injured son and asks for Rama's forgiveness. Rama who has just given birth to a daughter, forgives him. The movie story is about Shiv Charan Sharma, a farmer, moves to the city to make a life with his son Rohan, daughter Radha Seth and his wife. He meets Munna, an orphan. Shiv and Munna work hard in the underbelly of the city outside the law and go on to lead a syndicate of gangsters. Years pass by and Shiv Charan Sharma is shown to have become an untouchable ganglord. Aslam Pathan and Billa Singh Thakur, rival crime bosses, try to kill Shiv in hopes of overtaking his territory and get rid of the opposition he was proving to be in their plans to increase drug traffic within the city. Munna meanwhile falls in love with Razia, who is the daughter of Aslam Pathan. She elopes with Munna and gets married. Aslam Pathan attempts to get back at the father of the groom, by sending Gogia Advani to Shiv Charan Sharma with a drug proposition as he thinks that Shiv's acceptance of Gogia's offer would create dissent amongst the crime cirlces. Shiv Charan Sharma refuses, but Munna seems interested. Shiv Charan Sharma gets shot by goons hired by Pathan and Thakur. They think that Munna will follow up on the drug deal if the father is out of the picture. The father survives though. At this point Rohan enters the picture with girlfriend Neha.He has kept away from the family business till this point. Rohan then avenges his father's shooting by taking out Gogia Advani with Munna's help. Following the shooting, Rohan is on the run where he meets Ganga whom he falls for too. Four years later, Rohan becomes the crime boss. In the end, Sharad Joshi takes a killing contact from Aslam Pathan and Billa Singh Thakur to kill Shiv Charan Sharma and Munna.
